TARIFA
Home / Tarifa
Tarifa in the Andalusian province of Cádiz is the southernmost city on the European mainland. It marks the eastern end of the Costa de la Luz. Due to its strategically important location at the narrowest point of the Strait of Gibraltar, Tarifa has repeatedly been the scene of historical events.
The distance to Morocco, and thus the African continent, is only 14 km. Nowhere else are Europe and Africa closer to one another. Due to its proximity to the Moroccan coast, Tangier is a popular destination for tourists.
The short distance between mainland Europe and Africa also makes the Tarifa region one of the central points on the routes of more than 200 species of migratory birds. In the sea, the meeting of the water masses of the Atlantic and Mediterranean creates a unique ecosystem. Among the most spectacular residents are a number of dolphin and whale species.
As a small town, Tarifa has a lot to offer culturally on weekends or during the high season. The never-ending parties in Tarifa or the conversations about wind and weather can be mentioned as a main cultural activity.
Of course, Tarifa offers more than that: sweet coffees, romantic courtyards, street artists, exhibitions, theater, readings and concerts.
